Our cousin, Earl Bishop Aldridge—known to so many as “Big Earl from Pearl”—was diagnosed on August 29th with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). After his diagnosis at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, he was transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), where he will remain for an extended period of treatment.

Earl is a proud Christian and U.S. Army Veteran, a man whose life has always been about service—both to his country and to his community. For the past 29 years, Earl has faithfully served in the First Baptist Church praise band. Music has been his lifelong passion and main source of income, supporting him, his beloved wife Ann, and more recently their grandson Joe.

This season has been especially difficult, as Joe, also a U.S. Veteran, was involved in a serious car accident and has since been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. While the VA helps with Joe’s care, the compounded medical challenges have placed an enormous financial strain on Earl and Ann. On top of everything, Earl has been unable to work during this battle.

If you’ve ever heard Earl play, you know the joy he brings—whether at Cermani’s Italian Restaurant in Flowood, or during his annual Christmas “Smothered and Covered World Tour” at the Flowood Waffle House. His music has lifted countless spirits, and now he needs our support.

Earl leans on his faith daily, drawing strength from two of his favorite verses:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” — John 3:16

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” — Proverbs 17:22

We are asking for your help to ease the financial burden of Earl’s medical bills and living expenses, so he can focus fully on fighting AML. Any gift, no matter the size, will make a difference. And if you’re unable to give, please consider sharing this campaign to spread the word.

On behalf of Earl, Ann, Joe, and our entire family: thank you for your prayers, kindness, and generosity during this difficult time.
