We love big cats and we love data. But, all species of big cats - tigers, lions, cheetahs, leopards (including snow and clouded leopards) jaguars and pumas are threatened by an persistent desire for their body parts, including their skins, teeth and bones) as well as by the illegal trade for the pet trade. Much of this trade occurs illegally, driven by poaching of big cats in the wild and organised transnational smuggling networks.

This is a complex and evolving problem, and we want to be part of the solution to prevent the continued decline of these iconic species in the wild.

Go Insight Environmental Analytics CIC is a not-for-profit team of data and intelligence professionals focused on transforming complex datasets into practical insight to support conservation and environmental protection. We unlock the power of data by applying advanced analytical techniques, making high-quality intelligence more accessible to those who need it.

Centralised intelligence hub

We integrate multiple datasets - including seizures, trade records, enforcement actions, research, and monitoring - to generate unique insight into the global trade of big cats. Our interactive dashboard visualises crime patterns and trade dynamics, revealing both shared trends and differences between species and countries, and helping users understand the key drivers behind illegal activity.

CatByte was launched in November 2024 and in a short time we have already significant impact. CatByte has grown into a global community spanning 30 countries, comprising more than 85 members from 35 organisations. Our work has featured in Mongabay articles and we have produced analytical reports to support stronger decision-making at the CITES CoP20, focusing on the trade and trafficking of Asian big cats and jaguars.
