My name is Bianca Perez, and I am creating Newcomer as my senior thesis project. With this film, I wanted to explore the vulnerability that comes with grief and addiction through the lens of horror. I was interested in taking a space that is meant to feel safe and supportive, and slowly transforming it into something threatening and deeply uncomfortable.

What draws me to this project is the way it combines psychological tension with a contained, character focused story. Through Newcomer, I hope to create a short film that is both unsettling and emotionally resonant, while also showcasing my interest in suspense, atmosphere, and intimate genre storytelling.

When a grieving young woman attends her first support group meeting, she realizes too late that the group’s obsession with “family” masks a far more sinister hunger.
