Valkyrie swimming is currently an unfunded sport at Bigfork High School. These girls need your support to provide funding for team travel and equipment. There is a lot of excitement around the team and it has grown from 14 to 19 swimmers! Please read below to learn more.
REFLECTIONS ON THE 2020-21 SEASON:
Think McFarland, think Hoosiers, think the BHS Valkyrie Swim Team! They were the definition of underdog - a class B school swimming class A, a fledgling team with inexperienced swimmers, who practiced in a three lane pool that was the wrong length and lacked even starting blocks.
The circumstances were not ideal, but this was the BHS team. Coach Ball encouraged the experienced swimmers to work with the newer girls on stroke technique, starts, and flip turns. However, the biggest hurdle to get over was confidence and mental toughness. Through team dinners, secret sister bonding, and consistent affirmations, from Coach Ball and the other experienced swimmers, the team took shape.
There was no expectation of the BHS team placing at the 2020-21 state meet. But then, an extraordinary cross section of events occurred. The Valkyrie swimmers all swam “out of their heads!” It was truly a team endeavor with all of the relays placing in the top six, including two 2nd place finishes. The team had two individual state championships and several top six finishers!
Adding to the excitement and everyone's amazement, the team finished 2nd in the state, placing for the first time ever! They even beat their biggest rival the Whitefish Bulldogs! The team hopes to find the same success during the 2021-22 season! Please support your Bigfork High School Valkyrie swimmers with a donation today!
