We are a group of students and teachers from Burlington High School fundraising to take an educational trip to the Galapagos Islands. Educational travel gets students interacting with the world, it provides innovative, hands-on skills, complements the academic curriculum, and provides opportunities to discover one’s life passion.
We will be studying evolution at the Charles Darwin Research Station, studying wildlife at a tortoise breeding center and at a pink flamingo habitat, we will witness the natural forces at work near the equator at the Intiñan Museum, and the San Cristobal Centre much more!
Our Community: In 2021 after returning to school for ONE day in person after the pandemic, we were forced to close the doors of the school due to PCB contamination, a known cancer causing chemical. We were eventually able to relocate to a former Macy’s, which lacks many traditional classroom spaces such as a gym and science labs, as well as windows. The challenges we have faced as a community has only heightened the need to expand our learning beyond the classroom in order to provide deeper learning experiences to our students!
In addition, our need for funding arises from the unique experiences of our diverse student population, including 47% Free and Reduced Lunch, a BIPOC population of 39% and 16% English Language Learners who speak one of 38 languages.
Your DONATION helps to give this once in a lifetime experience to a young learner and future scientists! All donations will go toward scholarships for student travel. Our hope is to make this trip an equitable opportunity for all students regardless of socioeconomic status - everyone should have the opportunity to learn beyond the four walls of the classroom!
THANK YOU!
