Support Bex’s Top Surgery & Recovery

Hello loves,
My name is Bex Duncan, I am a Proud NonBinary (NB) 24 year old. I have been out as NB for about 10 years now. Top surgery has been on my mind for as long as I can remember. In 2021 I had a consult with a surgeon and was given a discouraging perspective about my eligibility; due to my weight and my connective tissue disorder (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome). This made me fearful to continue pursuing surgery. Since then, I’ve tried to accept my body, but I know that having top surgery is an important step for me to feel truly at home in myself. My goal is to create a life where I feel connected to who I am, rather than just coping with discomfort day by day. Though it is a struggle, I do feel privileged to have the able body that I have, and I wouldn’t take that for granted. I know there are more visibly severe diagnoses, or impacting factors to people who may not have access to transgender affirming healthcare as I do.

I’m currently a full-time student working toward an ASL Interpreting degree, and I hope to have surgery between mid-summer and early fall next year. I’m currently looking for a new doctor to have a consult with. During recovery, I’ll need to take possibly a month off work, possibly longer if there are complications due to my connective tissue disorder healing slower than most people. The funds raised will help cover my monthly expenses like medical equipment and hospital related bills, and possibly some sweet treats while healing! This way I can focus on healing without financial stress. I want to make sure I’m prepared for any unexpected challenges that might come up during this time.

I am so thankful to have a beautiful group of friends supporting me through this journey. Your support, whether through donations, kind words, or sharing my story; means more than I can express. These funds are not just for who I will be, but for who I’ve always been. Without your help, my journey to fully finding myself would have taken much longer.

If you know someone struggling with gender dysphoria/ questioning their identity or considering top surgery, please offer your time and love. With time and love, we will find ourselves and our family.

Thank you, my loving family!
