Meet Betty Reyes. She is 35 years old and, together with her three sons and loving husband, Abraham, currently resides in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico. In 2016, their lives completely changed when Betty was diagnosed with stage two cervical cancer. As you can imagine, processing this new reality was extremely difficult since her children at the time were just three, five, and eleven years old.

Betty and Abraham left their jobs and livelihood and moved to Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, for surgery. Betty underwent a hysterectomy, and after many complications, she was able to receive seven chemotherapy sessions, twenty-five radiation therapies, and four brachytherapy’s. Betty completed her treatment, and after five years of regular medical check-ups every six months, she entered remission. The amazing news brought Betty to tears when she learned she was cancer-free, thanking God endlessly and everyone who supported her through this life-changing experience.

Betty is still under follow-up care and gets tested every year. Her body is not the same, as she continues to experience pain and, due to hormone therapy, has gained weight. Despite this, Betty is happy watching her children grow and creating new memories with her family.

Unfortunately, Betty’s cancer treatments were so aggressive that her right kidney has collapsed and is no longer functioning. To protect her only functioning kidney, Betty needs surgery to continue living and caring for the family she loves.

The cost of the surgery to extract her right kidney is $20,000 USD. Unfortunately, the Reyes family’s medical insurance in Mexico does not cover this procedure.
