I have started a GoFundMe page for my wonderful and kind friend Betsy. She has experienced a huge setback and needs our help. I hope that you will consider reading her story and listening to her message at the end. Please donate what you can to help her. -Meredith Gabriel
On March 20th of this year, while working as a Behavioral Health Worker, Betsy was physically injured by a client during a session inside his home. Despite the incident, she immediately forgave him as he apologized for his behavior—a breakthrough moment after working with him for a long time on empathy. It did her heart good to know he understood and extended that empathy. Afterward, a coworker took Betsy to the local hospital, where she was diagnosed with whiplash and a concussion.
A few weeks later, on April 9th, Betsy's symptoms worsened significantly, and she was hospitalized in Grove City until April 11th. Although no stroke was found, her symptoms mirrored one. Betsy is now waiting to begin several therapies that have been recommended, including occupational therapy, speech therapy, neuro-ocular multi-sensory therapy, and neuro concussion clinic, while continuing physical therapy. Her neurologist has told her she may never fully recover, but there are opportunities for improvement.
Betsy was approved for extremely light duty work and is able to continue her cleaning business (one of her two occupations) for about three hours a week, though she lost two-thirds of that business during her first week of recovery. This is her only income since the incident. This covers the mortgage, and she struggles to work just 1-2 days a week. Her pay through Worker’s Comp won’t be sorted until her tax extension is completed in October. Betsy and her child Elijah have started using the local food pantry and a Food Train organized by a close friend. Still, they need to pay bills each month—utilities, doctor appointments, medications, health insurance, gasoline, car insurance, and more.
Life can change in an instant. But with support, hope, love and Betsy's commitment to getting better and stronger every day, she knows that everything within her control is what she can do, and that is as good as she can do. Every bit of support is allowing Betsy to recover as much as she can each and every day. Elijah and Betsy want to thank each and every one of you that reaches out with any kind of help, love, kindness and prayers. They appreciate you more than can know. here is a video of Betsy explaining her life now.
