Hello everyone, my name is Morgan, Betsy’s daughter. For anyone who knows my mom, you know she is strong, compassionate, and is loved by all. She is genuinely the best person I know and to this day, I will never understand why this happened. On May 16th, 2025 my mom called me while she was at work stating that she had a terrible migraine and is canceling the rest of her patients for the day. This was very unlike my mom, not be able to push through and finish her work day, so I knew something was off. I got home later that evening and saw how debilitating this migraine was for her. She was not her normal self which scared me and ultimately I made the decision to call 911. The paramedics brought her to Delray Medical Center, where we were met by a team of nurses and doctors who were trying to figure out what the cause of this terrible migraine was. They took my mom for a CT scan of her head and that is when we received some shocking news. They told me that my mom had an intraventricular hemorrhage, meaning she had a bleed inside the ventricle of her brain. I was terrified not knowing what the next course of action was for something like this, and thinking to myself how something so horrible could be happening to my mom. They told me she will be transferred to Neuro ICU to be monitored and meet with the neurology team to put together a plan of care for her. While my mom was in the hospital she had 4 CT scans, an MRI and an angiogram which is a diagnostic procedure to determine if they can find the source of the bleed and intervene if needed. Luckily, they said her vessels looked healthy and they could not find the source of the bleed ultimately meaning this was a freak event that happened. It is frustrating to not have an answer as to why, but we are all very thankful that she was going to be okay and no surgery was necessary at this time. After her procedure, she was transferred to a Neuro Step Down unit where they continued to monitor her and manage her pain. She was discharged home on May 22nd and we are now trying to get her back into a routine. My mom is still battling these debilitating headaches/head pressure but the neurologist said unfortunately she will be dealing with this for some time as the brain is the slowest organ to heal and we have to wait until her body reabsorbs the blood.
My mom has had a really difficult 2025. Recently losing her sister in February and then losing a dear friend just last month and now this. The emotional and physical stress that comes with this unexpected event, also comes with the significant financial strain of medical bills, and daily living costs. With no official return date back to work and with only living on my income, any donation to ease this burden on my mom and me is truly appreciated. I cannot thank everyone enough for the thoughts and prayers and kind messages we have received over this past week. It has meant a lot to me and my mom knowing we have so much support. Thank you❤️
