We are raising money for our close family member Bethany.
At 25, Bethany was diagnosed with a Stage 3 Astrocytoma, a fast-growing and aggressive brain tumour. She was diagnosed at 34 weeks pregnant after suffering severe headaches.
After giving birth to her baby boy Alfie, she underwent brain surgery. Unfortunately this was unable to remove the full tumour, meaning she needed extensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Recently, Bethany made a difficult decision to end treatment and focus on happier times with her family, due to the harsh side effects of chemotherapy ruining her quality of life.
Bethany, who is from Bangor Northern Ireland, now lives in Scotland with her partner Cameron and one year old Alfie.
Bethany says -
“When diagnosed last year, I had between 3 to 10 years to live, but I imagine this will be shorter now that I’ve had to stop the chemotherapy. It makes me very upset to think that I won't be here with Alfie as long as I'd like.”
Bethany has been making a memory box for her son Alfie, as she worries about not seeing him grow up.
“Myself and my partner Cameron are to be married in February next year. With myself not in the position to work we worry that we will not be able to make this wedding a reality. But we are so looking forward to it. I just need a big celebration like this. It's something positive to focus on to keep me going.”
The money raised will help towards Bethany’s wish of her dream wedding to become a reality, before her health deteriorates.
We as a family will be holding fundraising events over the next couple of months. Everyone is welcome to attend the events or donate to help raise as much money as possible for Bethany.
