Beth has been a life-long friend and is in need of our support. Right now, today, Beth is battling Systemic Scleroderma. It is the most deadliest of autoimmune diseases. She was diagnosed about a year ago. It's a disease that affects both internal organs and hardening of the skin. If left untreated she could lose her life.
Right now the disease has affected her connective tissue in many parts of her body. Systemic scleroderma can and has caused hardening of the the skin, affected her esophagus, which as had to be surgically streteched to allow her to swallow better. The disease has also attacked her abdomen which is causing her a lot of pain. Her illness has become more serious than originally thought and her doctor has referred her to the Cleveland Clinic for a consultation and two days of gastrointestinal and pulmonary tests. At some point in the near future, she will need surgery
Beth will need to travel back and forth to Cleveland clinic and Pittsburgh to see her specialist.
My hope is that we can raise enough money to give Beth the ability to pay her medical bills and prescriptions. To add to an already difficult situation, she recently suffered a serious auto accident. Thankfully, she wasn't seriously hurt but did fracture her back ( she's already had 7 back surgrries) tore her rotator cuff and burned her arm, but her car was totaled. So, in addition to needing help with medical expenses, she is also in need of a good used car to get her to her doctor appointments.
Without proper care from the right physicians, who specialize in this rare and incurable disease, she will deteriorate quickly. Beth needs our financial support to find a reliable, used car and all the help she can get to pay for her treatment. She is almost in the position where if she's doesn't start paying her regular doctors they will have to let her go. Right now, she is on oral chemo pills, which cause extreme fatigue and the nausea.
The hope is that the oral chemo and other medications that she is on will help put the disease into remission. The idea with the chemo and several others meds Beth is on is to get her in remission.
She definetly has a battle ahead of her and her limited resources will make an already difficult situation much worse.
The cost of Beth's prescriptions has gone from $20-30/month to almost $250 a month. This has gone from serious to dire and she needs our help.
Beth has the kindest heart of anyone I know, and she has helped many people. My hope is that that kindness will come back around to help her in her time of need. She really didn't want me to create this page but I insisted, because she needs our help. She deserves a decent quality of life and is in desperate need of donations.
I wouldn't be writing this story for her if she wasn't a special person close to my heart. She's come through so much but this is by far the scariest and most incredible challenge that she has faced.
If you can please,.... find it in your hearts to donate ( no amount is too small).
Thank you so much!
Peg
