The Beta Iota Chapter of the Sigma Nu Fraternity has been a fixture at the University of Mount Union for nearly 135 years. Additionally, we are one of the oldest chapters in continuous operation in the national fraternity. Our core principles are Love, Truth, and Honor - values which guide our activities. While some people think of Greek organizations as little more than social clubs, Beta Iota has a long and outstanding record of service and philanthropy, having won numerous awards and donated tens of thousands of dollars which they themselves raised. Despite our small size - about 30 men - we are a recognized leader on campus and in our national organization.

Every two years, our national organization hosts Grand Chapter, a national convention where policies are set, educational sessions are held, and awards are given to outstanding chapters. Two years ago at the Grand Chapter in Florida, Beta Iota was presented with the highest award given by Sigma Nu - Rock Chapter. After several years of excellent reviews, our chapter finally reached the level to receive this recognition.

• In July 2025, our chapter commander and lieutenant commander (president and vice president) plan to attend Grand Chapter in San Antonio, but we need help getting there. Unfortunately, airfares are especially high at the moment, and flying from NE Ohio to San Antonio is quite a challenge for a small chapter like ours. Current airfares with fees are nearly $500 per person. Our hotel and food are already taken care of, but we hope to raise enough money to allow our leadership to attend this biennial event. Should we raise more money than our expenses, anything leftover will be donated to our local food bank. We are asking all of our alumni and friends to please give as they are able.

Just this week the chapter took home the most awards of all the fraternities on campus, including the 3rd straight year for the Fraternity of the Year! we also won Outstanding President, Outstanding Fraternity Man, Top Risk Reduction Award, and Beat Philanthropy and Seevice Award, plus a few more We are on a roll!!
