Help Jamaica Rise Again — Hurricane Melissa Relief Fund
Hi, my name is Trevaune Baker, Founder of the Bet on Yourself Foundation and a proud Jamaican now residing in the U.S.
On October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa — a Category 5 hurricane and the strongest ever recorded to make landfall in Jamaica — wreaked havoc on the western end of the island. The storm left many families without homes, food, or basic necessities, and tragically, some lost their lives.
Among those affected are close friends and family of mine — the very people and communities that shaped who I am today. Simply put, without Jamaica, I wouldn’t be who I am, and I feel a deep responsibility to do everything I can to help in this time of need.
Through the Bet on Yourself Foundation, we’re organizing relief efforts to provide immediate support such as food, water, shelter materials, and essential supplies to families and friends who have been adversely affected.
But the need is overwhelming, which is why I’m reaching out to you today. Recovery will take time, but together, we can be an additional drop in the bucket — one that helps rebuild homes, restore hope, and show compassion beyond borders.
About the Foundation
The Bet on Yourself Foundation was founded in 2023 in memory of my grandmother. It's mission is rooted in the spirit of perseverance and pride that defines Jamaica — empowering young people to believe in themselves, unlock their potential, and create meaningful change in their communities. To date we have provided sponsorship towards the studies of two (2) high school students covering tuition, books, textbooks and meal support and continue to mentor and provide career path advice to countless others.
How Donations Will Be Used
All funds will be used directly to support families and communities affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica.
Donations will go toward:
Emergency Needs
- Food and bottled water
- Hygiene products, baby supplies, and toiletries
- Temporary shelter materials such as tarps, tents, sleeping bags, and generators.
Community Recovery
- School supplies such as exercise books and stationery.
- Building materials like plywood, paint, and roofing to help restore affected schools.
These efforts reflect the Foundation’s core belief that rebuilding lives means investing in both immediate relief and the future of Jamaica’s youth.
Full Transparency
We are committed to full transparency — every dollar donated will be used exactly as described. We’ll provide regular updates, photos, and receipts so you can see how your contribution is making a real difference in the lives of those we’re helping.
Together, We Will Rise
It’s not an easy road, and it will get harder before it gets easier — but we are a resilient people, and with your help, Jamaica will rise stronger than before.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and belief in the power of community.
