Bertram Almeida has always been someone who gives back. His heart for the community is undeniable—he has dedicated his time, resources, and efforts to making a difference. From providing a safe space for local dirt bikers and supporting youth programs to raising funds for tsunami victims and working to restore native Hawaiian plants, Bertram has been a pillar of generosity and service.

As the President of the Garden Island Motorcycle Club (GIMC), Bertram has worked tirelessly to create a positive environment for families and young riders. He even spent $200,000 of his own money on equipment to maintain the Omao Motorcycle Track, ensuring a safe and well-kept space for the community to enjoy. His generosity extends far beyond the track—GIMC has partnered with the Keala Foundation to support youth drug intervention programs, made monetary donations to ACS Relay for Life, Kauai Food Bank, and local sports teams. The track provides space for organizations like Canine Rescue Team, Kauai Ballet Hilloween event, and his wife's Halau Hula to gather plant material, workshop, and practice cultural traditions. His efforts have also extended to environmental restoration—eradicating invasive albizia trees, planting native Hawaiian species, and working with NTBG to preserve Hawaii’s natural beauty. In 2011, he helped raise $30,000 for tsunami victims through the Aloha Kauai for Japan concert.

In October, he was diagnosed with throat cancer. He has undergone intensive chemotherapy and radiation therapy, a grueling 8 week process that has left him unable to eat properly and caused him to lose over 35 pounds. Right now, he is focused on recovering and regaining his strength, but the fight isn’t over yet. More tests are needed to determine if the treatment was successful, and medical bills continue to pile up.
