Support Bernie Moye After Cycling Tragedy

Donation protected
Joy Cut Short: Bernie Moye’s tragic cycling accident – No matter what sport or activity you love, it becomes your joy, and Bernie’s joy has been cycling for many years as a member of several cycling groups. Unfortunately, on September 18, 2024, that joy was cut short when he was hit by a truck while riding and dragged underneath it, near his home in Pasco County, FL. He suffered breaks to the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar areas of his spine, resulting in a severe spinal cord injury. Due to the severity of his injuries, the lives of Bernie and his wife, Eileen, will be changed forever. Bernie is now quadriplegic, with no movement and little feeling below his chest, and very limited use of his hands. Through treatment at a leading spinal rehab facility, The Shepherd Center, in Atlanta, Bernie is gaining strength in his arms and shoulders; he has worked very hard at his rehab and is committed to being as independent as possible. He and Eileen are learning to manage. He is dependent on a wheelchair for mobility and requires adaptive equipment for daily activities such as eating and dressing, although he will need assistance with most activities.

Those of you who know Bernie through cycling will remember how he was always there to lend a hand to anyone and encourage others when they needed a pep talk. Bernie always focused on safety for the entire group when riding. And those of you who know Bernie through other avenues also know him to be caring and giving of his time and knowledge to help out in any situation.

Please consider donating to help Bernie and Eileen through the challenging times ahead. Although they are blessed with health insurance that will cover some costs, Bernie and Eileen must make significant modifications to their home. In addition, Bernie’s current needs are:

• Mobility van
• Extensive adaptive equipment and supplies
• Manual wheelchair

Bernie and Eileen have given so much to so many and now they are the ones in need. PLEASE spread the word of this GoFundMe for Bernie and PLEASE DONATE! Thank you!
