Two years ago, Bernie was diagnosed with Stage 0 CLL. At the time, we were hopeful it would remain manageable and not significantly impact his life. Unfortunately, things have quickly changed for the worse.

During a routine procedure for a kidney stone, doctors discovered an ulceration in his throat. He was then diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma and bravely completed six weeks of radiation. When he went into remission, we were overwhelmed with gratitude and hope.

Not long after, Bernie began experiencing hoarseness, shortness of breath, and swelling in his neck. Further testing revealed that his CLL had transformed into Richter’s transformation, a rare, aggressive, and much more difficult to treat form of lymphoma.

During this hospitalization, Bernie required a tracheostomy to protect his airway and a feeding tube for nutrition. This has been life changing and devastating. Anyone who knows Bernie knows he is always on the go ,the life of the party, the one throwing unforgettable gatherings, and he is now unable to do one of his favorite things, singing.

Bernie has always shown up for everyone around him. Now he faces at least six rounds of chemotherapy and is hoping for a consultation in Houston for further specialized care. With extensive medical treatments, travel, and time away from work, the financial burden is significant and unexpected.

We are asking that during this incredibly difficult time, we all rally around Bernie,whether through financial support or simply by being present, offering encouragement, and lifting him up in prayer and love.
