Hi everyone. My name is Kimberly Kowalski, and anyone who knows me knows my love for my animals.
On March 6th, my 9-year-old Shorkie Bentley (my soul dog) didn’t want his food (which is SO unlike him), started vomiting occasionally, and shaking, seemingly out of nowhere.
On March 7th, he seemed to be better after eating a bland diet and getting some rest.
On March 8th, after I came home from work, I noticed him shaking again, and he started throwing up.
We made the decision to take him to VEG in Nanuet, NY, where blood tests revealed that all of his liver enzyme numbers were sky high, and one in particular was so high that it couldn’t be read until the blood sample was diluted 4 times.
Additional bloodwork revealed that his clotting numbers were okay for now, and he didn’t need an immediate plasma transfusion.
As of right now at 1:14 AM on March 9th, after spending 5 hours at VEG, we made the decision with the doctor's advice to hospitalize him overnight (for now) to start treatment for his liver, start IV fluids, and see where those numbers take us.
He may need an abdominal ultrasound and other treatments, depending on where his numbers land later this evening.
I love Bentley with all of my heart. And I would do anything for him.
So far, we have pre-paid a total of $5,391.22 for his hospitalization, treatment, blood work, etc., in a 5-hour time frame.
Before 3 days ago, I would have never ever imagined anything at all was wrong with Bentley. He was happy, playful, asking for treats and cuddles, and was seemingly his normal bratty, but adorably cute, self.
If anyone at all could please share this page or even donate to help bring my baby back home… It would mean the absolute world to me and beyond.
If you can’t share or donate, I just ask that you pray for him to be okay.
Thank you so much.
