Support Bentley's Fight for a Second Chance

Bentley, our beloved 12 year old Siberian Husky, is very sick with an unknown medical condition causing life/threatening anemia. We live in Tallahassee with him.

We took him to our vet for a limp which indicated subsequently that he had a torn ACL, but that became the least of his problems. In order to save his life to see what was going on, he needed a blood transfusion on 1/7/25 at Allied emergency hospital (a horrible experience with minimal prof care and $3K later). They said it appeared there was a large mass on liver and likely no hope and to euthanize. We were not doing that on the spot as he sat with us aware, looking anround, responding, and giving kisses — do they treat sick people like that???

The next day we took him to an incredibly caring, professional, emergency hospital that had been full the day before, but then had an opening called Capital Veterinary Specialists where he remains today.

The diagnosis is hopeful NO Cancer they think!!!! They are amazing but of course need $$$ for around the clock diagnostic tests, meds, care and last night sadly — another blood transfusion.

He has an unknown condition causing the anemia and eating his red blood cells - most likely an autoimmune condition or a parasite. He is apparently a medical mystery because they just aren’t positive of What’s causing the anemia. All the while, he is creating a ton of his own red blood cells trying to combat the issue. But we are relieved that he’s not full of cancer as was suspected as likely condition. If he can survive with correct diagnosis, the torn ALC on his back, left leg causing the limp —may ultimately have to have surgery at a different time or the body may adapt to the injury bit never repair itself. So thus far - but I guess once you keep spending, I mean he’s priceless to us, but you just start to get immune to how much this could cost approaching $10k.

My beautiful, amazing boy is so strong and regal trying to walk with the two bad and weakening issues - he deserves and is showing us how much he is able to live on through so many challenges. We are doing all we can until no more options are available for a second chance of a couple more years of life. The vets are very encouraging that they need more time to figure out what is causing this. Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Any help (however small) is greatly appreciated❤️‍❤️‍
