Help Support Ben and His Family Through a Life-Changing Medical Journey

Our beloved Ben is facing an uphill battle with multiple serious health conditions. He has been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, congestive heart failure, and stage 4 kidney disease. Right now, his medical team is working diligently to slow the progression of his kidney disease. While dialysis is expected sooner rather than later, doctors are doing everything possible to delay it and preserve his quality of life for as long as they can.

Ben’s Journey: Week 10 Update

We recently reached the 9-week mark of this challenging journey—today marks 9 weeks and 1 day. Ben is currently on day 13 of his third rehabilitation stay. We remain hopeful that we are approaching the final stretch, even though there have been a few setbacks along the way. His anticipated release date is Friday, but depending on how things progress, a fourth hospitalization may be necessary. For now, we remain in an uncertain in-between space.

It’s difficult to believe that we are nearly 14 weeks into 2026, and Ben has only been home for about 4½ of those weeks. He has spent more than twice as much time in hospitals and rehabilitation facilities as he has at home this year—something our family never imagined when the year began.

Despite these challenges, Ben continues to make steady progress in both physical and occupational therapy. Each day he grows a little stronger and more capable than the last. This progress is a tremendous blessing compared to where he was before his most recent hospitalization, when it often felt like two steps forward and one step back.

Recently, we encountered a setback as his kidney numbers began to rise again. The rehab team administered IV fluids, and thankfully there has been slight improvement. However, new symptoms over the past few days have reminded us how delicate his condition remains. While nothing is critical at the moment, we are closely monitoring his health, asking questions, and taking each day as it comes.

Ben is currently experiencing advanced kidney dysfunction, which makes it difficult for his body to balance fluids and filter waste. Too much fluid can strain his heart and lungs, while too little can further damage his kidneys. It is a constant and fragile balancing act, and conditions can change quickly.

Through it all, we trust that God is guiding this journey. We lean on Him daily for strength, wisdom, and peace in the unknown. We are deeply grateful for the prayers, encouragement, and support that have carried us through these difficult months.

Ben’s wife, Tara, is a devoted stay-at-home mother who homeschools their son with severe adhd. She is now preparing to return to work while also serving as Ben’s primary caregiver—balancing employment, caregiving, homeschooling, and managing their household. The physical, emotional, and financial strain on their family is immense.
