UPDATE:
Hi y’all - here’s an update on my dad!
My dad had surgery on Monday to fix his right clavicle, and then a big surgery yesterday to repair five broken ribs. Both surgeries went really well — praise God! No more surgeries ahead, just a long road of recovery now.
Yesterday was a harder day mentally for him, which was tough to watch. If you know my dad, you know he doesn’t shy away from hard work. But as the heavy meds started wearing off, I think it hit him just how much work it’s going to take to heal and get back to normal. We’re reminding him it’s okay to feel frustrated and overwhelmed — and that we’re with him for all of it. I’ve been praying Isaiah 40:26–31 over him, and would love if you joined me in praying for strength — both in his body and in his spirit.
Some good updates: yesterday he got out of bed and into a chair with help from the nurses, which is huge. He passed his speech therapy eval (no more cognitive testing needed!), and he’s been doing PT every day to work on mobility. He’s had lots of visitors who love him, and you can tell it really lifts his spirit. We’ve been telling him how many people near and far are thinking about him and praying — it means so much.
We’ve had so many God moments in the past few days — so many reminders of His faithfulness and steadfast love. Having each other — and lots of siblings — has been a gift. We’ve been taking shifts so someone’s always there with my dad, and also making sure to look after each other and my mom. She’s our rock and the very best caretaker. Any second she’s out of the room, my dad’s asking where she is — she is his comfort, no question. We’ve all said it more than once: this week could’ve looked very different, and we’re just so humbled we still get to be here together and take care of my dad.
Also — they moved him in the middle of the night from the trauma floor to a regular floor. We know that’s a good sign medically, but we were a little bummed because the trauma nurses were amazing and super attentive. This new floor is more “do it yourself” and a little understaffed. So just praying he continues to get the care he needs and that we get some great nurses here too. He will stay at the hospital at least until the end of the week.
Love you all — thank you again for the prayers, messages, support, and love. We seriously couldn’t do this without you.

Dear friends, family, and community,
Many of y’all know and love our dad, Ben Bretz. Yesterday evening, he was in a serious motorcycle accident. The injuries are significant — but he’s alive and we are praising God because it is so clear that He had His hand on him.
He sustained a fractured skull, and several fractures in his neck, clavicle, thumb, and ribs. He has road rash to the bone on one arm and is very banged up — but by the grace of God, there is no brain bleeding, his oxygen and breathing are good and he is awake and talking. That alone feels like a miracle and a powerful reminder of God’s protection.
Ben is a self-employed, small business owner, but even more than that, he’s someone who shows up with a servant’s heart — always giving, always loving, always helping others. He would never ask for help himself, but we know it’s important to let our friends, family and community to come around him in prayer, encouragement, and generosity.
As he begins the long road to recovery, we want to lift as much weight as possible off him and our mom — especially when it comes to the overwhelming medical bills and the financial gap from him being unable to run his business. Our hope is that they can focus completely on healing and resting.
Every gift, no matter the size, means the world — and we will keep this page updated with his progress. Thank you for surrounding him and our family with your prayers and care. We’re trusting God for full healing and giving Him all the glory every step of the way.
With grateful hearts,
