Ben is a bright and energetic, three-year-old who has brought much happiness to his parents, Cody and Krista, and his eight-year-old brother, Braydan. Recently, Ben was diagnosed with Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome.
Nephrotic Syndrome is a rare kidney disorder that causes the body to lose large amounts of protein through the urine, leading to swelling, fatigue, and a higher risk of infections. For Ben, this means frequent hospital visits, strict medication regimens, and constant monitoring to prevent complications. The unpredictability of the illness has made daily life challenging for Ben and his family, as they work tirelessly to manage his symptoms and keep him comfortable.
The family lives in the northern Adirondacks, which makes access to advanced medical care difficult. Treatment has required multiple hospitalizations and the nearest hospital staffed and equipped to care for Ben is 2 1/2 hours away. Both parents work hard to provide for the family. Cody is employed building custom homes and Krista manages a building supply store. Even so, the cost of travel, hospital stays and medications have surpassed their ability to pay.
To make matters even more overwhelming, Cody and Krista lost their health insurance coverage due to an administrative error, requiring them to wait for the next enrollment period. Although they were able to apply for Child Health Plus in November of this year the new coverage will not begin until January 1, 2026. In the meantime, the family must pay out-of-pocket for all of Ben's medical expenses, which continue to grow with each hospital visit. The financial strain is immense.
Cody and Krista never thought they would be in this position. Their son Ben is a beautiful and happy little boy who has been a joy in their lives. No one could have anticipated having to face this challenge. The family would be deeply grateful for any support that can be offered during this difficult time.
