My name is Ben Agar. I'm an 8th-grader at Holy Trinity School in Westfield, N.J., and am a candidate for Eagle Scout with Troop 73 at Holy Trinity Church.
This GoFundMe campaign is to help pay for my project. Through the sale of popcorn, poinsettias, and wreaths over the past year, plus donations outside of GoFundMe, I've managed to collect more than $1,037 toward the project, which is more than 20% of the overall $5,000 goal. I'm respectfully asking you to consider supporting this project, which -- as someone who is neurodivergent and has two brothers who are "on the spectrum" -- really means a lot to me.
My project is the conversion of an underutilized storage/pass-through space at Holy Trinity School into "Saints' Haven," which will be a sensory-friendly place of refuge, calmness, and decompression for students in the school community who are overstimulated, are overstressed, or just need a break.
Saints' Haven will feature walls painted with calming colors, a whimsical mural, papasan chairs, aroma and sound therapy, textured wall hangings and floor mats, and a generous supply of fidgets. (See the photos in this GoFundMe page of what the space looks like now and what it might look like when my project is complete.)
As one of the elementary schools in the area that is better known for making Catholic education available to students who learn and process differently, Holy Trinity School will benefit from being able to offer this sensory-friendly area to its students who need some time just to "cool off" and "unwind." (I know I could really have used it when I was younger!)
I appreciate any support you can offer and am happy to share photos of what the project area looks like today as well as how I envision it will appear when done later this spring.
Thanks for all your help!
