Hi all,

I was given the opportunity to rescue a dog off of the streets from an abusive and neglectful situation. This dog has been physically abused, dragged kicked, sprayed with water, burned and in some instances used for trafficking to make money (dog baiting, sold for drugs etc). He has changed hands at least 4 times in his 3-5 years with his most recent owner having him for only a month. The exchange for Benny was $10 and a tent. The prior owner was also violent and physically abusive and Benny is showing signs of trauma. Benny is very much in active recovery and is primarily focused on deep sleep. The first night he slept for over 24 hours waking only to potty and eat. He is house trained, microchipped and as of yesterday is up to date on all initial vaccines and all meds.

When we first met Benny on the street he was in a state of fear and exhaustion. His tail was completely tucked and wrapped up to his stomach, he was shaking, limping and having breathing issues. After 6 hours in our home he started rolling, licking, playing, stretching and wagging his tail.

Benny, has a big personality but is shy and wary. He has not been tested with animals yet but cries to play when they walk by. He warms up quickly to humans that show themselves to be safe and is a big communicator, often making funny happy sounds that resemble a hippo, pig and dinosaur after eating or having treats. He has not show aggression but has reactivity around objects and being touched on his belly (a pain spot from repeated kicking). He desperately wants love and a affection. He has shown separation anxiety and follows you around the house or cries when you leave the room. I cannot keep him and want to fundraise as a medical sponsor and contribute towards the rescue that will be working with Benny to rehabilitate any trauma that would keep him from a successful adoption placement. This rescue provides a ranch style decompression space for the dog to recover in a safe environment while getting ready for adoption.

Benny will thrive in a loving, stable home, but needs space to fully decompress under an experienced handler. Any small amount is greatly appreciated and makes all the difference in the world
