Benny the Goat Needs an MRI – Help Us Uncover the Cause of His Paralysis

We’d like to introduce you to Benny, our sweet 1-year-old Nigerian Dwarf mix goat who has brought joy, laughter, and unconditional love to our small farm and family. Benny isn’t just livestock, he is a companion, a blessing, and a deeply cherished part of our lives. Always affectionate, curious, and full of life, Benny would follow us around the farm and lovingly nudge us for scratches.

On July 11th, our lives turned upside down when Benny suddenly began acting distant, pacing in circles, and hesitating to enter his stall. That night, he suffered a terrifying seizure and collapsed, suffering a severe neck injury. We called our primary mobile veterinarian, who came out to care for him and the x-rays didn't show any signs of a fracture. As time passed, Benny appeared to stabilize for almost two weeks, but then on July 25th, without warning, his front limbs became paralyzed. He could no longer walk or even hold himself up.

The one thing he did still have, was the fight and determination to live.

Fearing the worst, we rushed him to the NC State University Farm Animal Hospital, where he has been under 24/7 emergency care ever since. Initial CT scans and additional X-rays ruled out trauma or bone fractures. A spinal tap revealed inflammation in his central nervous system, pointing toward a neurological condition. However, without an MRI, we cannot determine the root cause of his paralysis or pursue the right course of treatment.

And that’s why we’re here.

The MRI alone costs $3,176.76, and while Benny’s full care may total between $7,743 to $8,658, we are only asking for help to cover the MRI cost and physical therapy, which hold the key to understanding what’s truly going on and how we can best help him heal.

We know that to some, this is “just a goat.” But to us, Benny’s life is a gift from God. We believe wholeheartedly that if there is breath in his lungs, then God still has a purpose for him. We have prayed over him, cared for him with everything we have, and trust that this journey is not in vain.
