Hi, my name is Gabriela. On July 29th, 2025, my sweet dog Benji was viciously bit in his face by a bull terrier at the Earl Warren dog park in Castro Valley, CA. It was one of the most terrifying moments of my life.
When I heard Benji scream and saw blood pouring from his mouth, I panicked. I ran to him and picked him up, terrified. The other dog’s owner tried to brush it off, saying, “He probably just bit his tongue.” I was so focused on getting Benji cleaned up and safe that I rushed to the nearest bathroom to assess the damage. When I returned just a few minutes later, the owner and his dog were gone—no name, no apology, no responsibility.
Benji suffered a fractured jaw and had to undergo surgery. The vet bills have totaled over $6,000—an amount that is devastating for me to cover on my own. This entire experience has been traumatic and overwhelming, both emotionally and financially. I consider Benji my baby, my whole entire world and would do anything for him to be okay, but financially this is ruining me.
I don’t blame the dog—I blame the owner, who continues to bring an unsocialized, aggressive dog to public parks. I’m heartbroken and doing everything I can to help Benji heal, but I truly can’t do this alone.
If you’re able to help in any way, no matter how small, it would mean the world to me and Benji. Thank you so much for reading and for your support.
