On the 28th of July, Ben had his first surgery, which lasted 8 hours and he spent 6 days in Pediatric ICU. Full circulation was restored to his left leg, and a lot of pressure has been taken off of his heart. He is now in physical therapy and making great progress. He is able to move his leg without assistance, and has even kicked it high into the air! This is nothing short of God’s hand, and all probable risks ( loss of left leg, and major blood loss), were avoided, to Him be the glory!
While the first surgery was a success and a great start, he still faces several more, the next being on September 10th, and is possibly tricker than the first, and still faces some of the same probable risks as before, (major loss of blood is always the biggest concern), and will have another long stay in the PICU. After all the AVM’s are treated, he will then move onto treating the bones in his pelvis and left leg. There are many more trips to Duke Children’s Hospital and medical bills and travel expenses are mounting up, as we provide for our family in two different places at once.
