Benita Needs Your Help

About a month ago, our sweet bunny Benita suddenly became very sick. She stopped eating and pooping for two days, so we rushed her to the ER vet. They diagnosed her with GI stasis, which can be caused by stress, pain, or something she ate. The vet ran X-rays, blood work, and other tests, and while Benita improved a little after medications, something still wasn’t right.

A few days later, we noticed her ear was stiff. When we took her to a second vet, they shaved her fur and discovered a large, infected wound that the first vet had missed. The infection was severe, and the vet explained it was most likely caused by another animal. That’s when we realized the only explanation was our cat. While we never imagined he would hurt her, we now believe his bite caused the ear infection and likely triggered her GI stasis from the pain.

The new vet gave her different medications, and while she’s been eating and pooping again, her ear has not healed as we had hoped. The infection may have stopped spreading, but the skin and tissue are not recovering. Her ear is now cracking and separating, and the vet believes she may need surgery to remove the damaged part of her ear.

I am a full-time college student and part-time worker, and I’ve already spent over $700 on Benita’s care. The thought of her needing surgery is overwhelming—emotionally and financially. But I love her deeply and will do everything I can to help her recover, even if it means she loses part of her ear.

I’m asking for help from friends, family, and fellow animal lovers to ease this financial burden and give Benita the care she deserves. Every dollar will go directly toward her vet bills, treatment, and recovery.

Hace aproximadamente un mes, nuestra dulce conejita Benita se enfermó de repente. Dejó de comer y de hacer popó por dos días, así que la llevamos de urgencia al veterinario. Allí le diagnosticaron íleo gastrointestinal (GI stasis), que puede ser causado por estrés, dolor o algo que haya comido. El veterinario le hizo radiografías, análisis de sangre y otras pruebas, y aunque mejoró un poco con los medicamentos, algo seguía sin estar bien.

Pocos días después, notamos que su oreja estaba rígida. La llevamos a un segundo veterinario, quien le rasuró el pelaje y descubrió una gran herida infectada que el primer veterinario no había detectado. La infección era grave, y el doctor nos explicó que lo más probable es que fuera causada por otro animal. Fue entonces cuando nos dimos cuenta de que la única explicación era nuestro gato. Aunque nunca imaginamos que pudiera lastimarla, ahora creemos que su mordida provocó la infección en la oreja y posiblemente desencadenó el íleo por el dolor.

El nuevo veterinario le recetó diferentes medicamentos y, aunque Benita volvió a comer y a hacer popó, su oreja no ha sanado como esperábamos. Puede que la infección haya dejado de expandirse, pero la piel y el tejido no se están recuperando. Su oreja ahora se está agrietando y separando, y el veterinario cree que podría necesitar una cirugía para remover la parte dañada.

Soy estudiante universitaria de tiempo completo y trabajo medio tiempo. Ya he gastado más de $700 en la atención médica de Benita. La posibilidad de que necesite cirugía es abrumadora, tanto emocional como financieramente. Pero la amo profundamente y haré todo lo posible por ayudarla a recuperarse, incluso si significa que pierda parte de su oreja.
