Ben Winstead has been part of our story for a long time. Recently, he underwent brain surgery after doctors discovered a large mass on his brain. The mass was removed and is currently undergoing pathology to determine the exact diagnosis. While doctors suspect medulloblastoma, final confirmation is still pending. Either way, brain surgery is significant, and recovery is now underway.
I first met Ben when he was a middle school student in our youth ministry at Harborside Christian Church. His mom, Kathy Winstead, and I served on staff together, and I had the privilege of watching Ben grow up during those formative years.
Years later, I had the honor of standing in his wedding when he married Amanda. Today, they are raising three incredible boys — Parker (10), Jacob (6), and Luke (1).
The surgeons believe they were able to remove the tumor, which we are incredibly thankful for — grateful for the skill of the surgeons and for God’s faithfulness through it all. The road ahead will include radiation, chemotherapy, follow-up testing, and a season of recovery.
Amanda is a pediatric oncology nurse — someone who spends her days caring for children and families walking through cancer. Now she and Ben find themselves walking that road personally.
Ben works at a law firm in Midtown Atlanta and will be unable to work for a season as he focuses on treatment and recovery. This fundraiser is not intended to cover all medical expenses. The goal is to help with the “in-between” — the income gap created by missed work, travel to treatments, childcare needs, daily expenses, and the financial pressure that quietly builds during seasons like this.
If you know Ben from Harborside, from church, from the firm, from childhood, or simply through a shared connection — would you consider helping carry this family for a while?
Every gift, large or small, makes a meaningful difference. It allows Ben to focus on healing and Amanda to focus on caring for him and their boys.
Thank you for loving this family well.
