Ben Goodwin is my brother-in-law. He is married to my sister, Karen, and together they have a 14-year-old daughter, Chloe. In 2024, Ben was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer. He faced surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy with remarkable strength and a positive attitude, determined that each step was just part of his journey to recovery. After months of treatment, Ben was able to return to work and resume his daily routines, from yard maintenance to snow blowing, always doing his part for his family and community. Follow-up scans eventually showed no areas of concern, and for a while, Ben, Karen, and Chloe could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
However, in October 2025, Ben began experiencing extreme migraines. More testing revealed the cause: nine spots and a tumor in his head, which, due to its location, is not operable. Ben is now undergoing further treatment, but the toll on his strength has been significant. He was recently hospitalized and is currently in a rehabilitation facility, working hard to regain his strength. Unfortunately, this is a long and slow road. Ben is unable to work, and Karen has had to reduce her hours to care for him. The financial pressure on their family is mounting quickly, especially as Ben will require full-time care when he is able to come home.
