As an undergrad student at Bemidji State University. I have an exciting opportunity to study International Human Rights abroad! I need your generous help to afford:
- Costs of airfare, travel & meals
- Travel-friendly all all-weather clothes and shoes
- Chargers and adapters for phone and medical equipment,
- Animal care while abroad,
Spring of 2026, I’m learning about human rights in many historically significant locations throughout Europe:
- Geneva, Switzerland — Visit the UN’s European headquarters and the Red Cross; learn about Geneva’s role in diplomacy and humanitarian law; explore Lake Geneva, Lausanne, and the medieval Château de Chillon.
- Paris, France — Explore UNESCO, the ideals that shaped the Declaration of the Rights of Man, and world-class culture at the Louvre and Versailles.
- The Hague & Amsterdam, Netherlands — See the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court; reflect at the Anne Frank House and visit the Van Gogh Museum.
• Winnipeg, Canada — Engage with Indigenous leaders and community groups on reconciliation, equity, and community-driven justice.
Why studying human rights matters:
This study abroad connects what I’m learning to the real places where global norms are made and lived. Meeting with the UN, UNESCO, and international courts will sharpen my understanding of policy and accountability; museums and memorials deepen my historical perspective. I’ll bring back concrete skills, connections to new networks, and ideas that strengthen my education, grow my professional toolkit, and help me create more effective, culturally responsive impact at home in northern Minnesota.
