Western North Carolina is still reeling from the shock and sadness of Hurricane Helene. In an afternoon our friends and families and favorite places were washed away by the floods and landslides, and for several days my city of Asheville was completely cut off from the rest of the world. Folks around here had to rely on one another to get basic necessities like food and water, and there were several organizations that have worked and continue to work tirelessly to help the people of Asheville.
The news has shown pictures of the physical damage caused by Helene, but the financial landscape has been equally devastated as well. Those who are fortunate enough to still have jobs to go to will be out of work for the foreseeable future. It will take many years for Asheville to be back on its feet, and there will be great need here long after the camera crews have left. I am asking for donations on behalf of Beloved Asheville, one organization that has done amazing work in providing necessary supplies to those who have been impacted until they are able to provide for themselves again. Beloved has been distributing food, water, winter clothing, hygiene, and building supplies, but they need help. Please consider making a donation, and when the time is right, visiting Asheville to see for yourself why this city is so special. Thank you.
