Herro!!! My name is Bella. I am undergoing my gender reassignment surgery (GRS) early next year and am starting a little GoFundMe to try and help with the huge financial burden that I'm going to face before, during, and after the surgery. I don't really have the words to describe what getting this surgery done means to me and my mental health. Even with insurance, the out of pocket cost for the surgery is $8,500 if my insurance accepts my request to have the surgery be in-network with a doctor's referral. If this is denied, the out of pocket cost rises to $19,000. In addition, I have to pay for my lodging, which is an additional $3,500 since I am required to stay in the place I am having the procedure done for a whole month. Those being the main financial obligations, there are more things I could mention, like my insurance premium doubling to $900/mo or the fact that I am required to have a caretaker/family member the whole month of recovery. I am fortunate to have my chosen family, but I will be paying for most of their flights to and from the city. I will also be out of work for at least 2 months and the challenges that will bring, like $400 a session pelvic floor therapy required weekly post-surgery for two months. That still doesn't even cover everything, but I think that pretty well describes some of the financial mountain I am facing.
Now I want to be completely transparent with y'all. I find that I am in a very fortunate position in life to even have this opportunity and just overall in general. I have a job that I very much enjoy, that provides me enough to do some of the things I enjoy and that make me happy. Because of this, I have been hesitant to even make a GoFundMe. I see so many others struggling, that to be honest, it makes me feel a bit guilty even asking for support, but I find myself being so stressed out about everything. So let me say this, if you so graciously choose to donate any amount, please only give what you can comfortably give. I will be using any funds I raise here to try and not overwork myself leading up to the surgery (as for now, I will be working 50 hrs a week till surgery) and to keep any amount I may need to ask from the bank as low as possible. I am so fucking grateful for any amount you are able to donate, and if you are unable to donate, that really is okay. If you can, consider sharing the link to your socials. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Love, Bella ❤️
