Hi everyone, my name is Cian McDonnell, I’m 23 years old and from Belfast.

I’ve been passionate about tennis for as long as I can remember. I first picked up a racket at Belfast Boat Club when I was around 5 years old, and that’s where my journey truly began. Growing up, so many coaches at the club played a role in my development, but it was ultimately Carlos Miranda who became my coach and helped me shape my game to the level I’m at today.

Tennis has taken me far from Belfast—I earned the chance to play college tennis in the United States, first at the University of North Dakota and later at the University of Hawai‘i Hilo, where I graduated. Competing at the college level in the U.S. gave me invaluable experience, both on and off the court, and confirmed my desire to pursue this sport professionally.

Now, I am working to take the next step in my career. Having become the current Northern Ireland and Ulster champion earlier this summer, I plan on playing eight professional tournaments across Europe between October and December. These events are a vital opportunity to gain experience, earn ranking points, and establish myself on the professional circuit.

To make this possible, I am aiming to raise £5,000 to help with travel, tournament fees, training, and accommodation. I will also be holding a fundraiser at Belfast Boat Club in two weeks, which feels very special since it’s the place where everything started for me.
