Friends! We have decided to reach out to all caring people for help and support!
Two young girls from Belarus — Polina (born 2002) and Alexandra (born 2005) — have been held in detention at the California border for over 9 months already. Their lawyer failed to defend them in court and stopped cooperating with the family without any valid reason. Now the two young sisters face deportation to a dictatorial country.
Thanks to compassionate people, we were able to hire a new lawyer and sign a contract. We managed to file the appeal on time, but we don’t have enough money to cover the fees. The girls have been denied habeas corpus twice because the first lawyer made a mistake when filling out the documents. As a result, the sisters are forced to wait several more months before they can submit a new application.
There are no guarantees that this situation will end in their release, but we continue to fight for their lives and their right to political asylum in the United States. The parents are receiving support from Belarusians living in Los Angeles, but it is not enough. That’s why we have decided to launch a new fundraiser to support these young girls, who are in despair and in a very difficult condition.
There are medical documents confirming their health issues. It is important to support them morally, but there is also an urgent need to cover immediate financial expenses paid directly to the lawyers — which is exactly what we are working on right now.
Thank you to everyone who cares! Please help spread this information. Together we are stronger!
Recently, our community came together and successfully secured the release of the Imbra family from ICE detention. Thanks to a combination of GoFundMe donations and incredible grassroots support, they are now free. We know how to navigate this process, and now we urgently need your help to do it again for two more individuals.
In solidarity is our strength! Long live Belarus!
