In August 2025, I was assaulted by my ex-boyfriend, which left me with extensive injuries. My left eye was swollen shut, my left eardrum ruptured, and I needed two sets of stitches behind my right ear due to deep gashes down to the cartilage. The ER doctor conducted a CT scan to check for facial fractures or brain bleeds. The attack caused ongoing facial and nerve damage, and my sense of smell and taste have been affected. I have been unable to work since. To cope with the trauma and PTSD, I have started an intensive outpatient program.

Despite the severity of my injuries and the impact on my life, the legal process has been difficult. My ex-boyfriend was offered a plea deal without my knowledge, resulting in probation and the possibility of expungement. I was not notified of the deal, which violated my civil rights. The wheels of justice move painfully slow and I have yet to receive any financial compensation. I was only eligible for 8 weeks of short-term disability, even though I have not been able to return to work due to severe PTSD. I am seeking support to advocate for myself and sue Harris County for violating my civil rights.
