Hello, my name is Mor Ben Haim, and I'm an actress, filmmaker, and the creator of
Before The Fog.
I’m reaching out to share a project that holds a deep personal significance for me. Before the Fog is a film that aims to shine a light on young-onset dementia, a condition that affects thousands of families but is still widely misunderstood and rarely represented on screen.
If you believe in the power of film to heal, connect, and raise awareness, or if dementia has touched your life, please help us bring this story to the world.
Thanks to an incredible team and the generous support of early backers, we've completed filming. Now, we’re raising $7,000 to finish post-production and help bring this story to audiences who need to see it, in film festivals, community screenings, and beyond.
The Story
Before The Fog is a deeply emotional story about memory, identity, and the invisible threads that bind us, even as the mind begins to let go.
The film follows a young mother whose life is turned upside down by early-onset dementia. As her condition worsens, she is forced to make an unthinkable choice: to give up her child for their safety. In a final act of love and clarity, she decides to go on a journey to reconnect with her son one last time, before her memories fade completely.
This film is more than a portrayal of illness.
It’s a story of love, loss, dignity, and the moments of light that can still be found in the darkest times. It challenges how we see dementia, not only as a story of loss but also one of strength, humanity, and grace.
Why I Want to Tell This Story
This story is personal.
I’ve seen the effects of dementia up close. I sat beside my grandmother as she slowly drifted away, searching for glimpses of the woman she once was. In those quiet, heartbreaking moments, I needed something to hold on to. I needed hope.
Before The Fog is the kind of film I wish I had then.
This film seeks to reframe how we view dementia, not just as a story of loss, but as a deeply human experience that can hold unexpected moments of joy, clarity, and peace. It gives us a glimpse into the inner world of people living with dementia, reminding us that even as they change, they are still there.
I want this film to give people what I needed most.
Hope that love still exists. That connection is still possible.
That even when memories fade, meaning remains.
Young-Onset Dementia
Younger-onset dementia refers to any type of dementia diagnosed in people under the age of 65 , rarely as early as their 30s, during some of the most active and demanding years of life.
It affects individuals while they’re raising families, building careers, and planning for the future. The symptoms can be confusing, and many people go undiagnosed or misunderstood for years.
When I learned how common it is becoming — and how little awareness or representation exists, I felt a responsibility to tell this story.
Before The Fog was created to bring attention to this reality — to open up conversations, offer support, and show the humanity of those living with this condition.
