Hey, I’m Bee. I was in the hospital from November 2023 until January 2024 after my colon ruptured following years of arguing with doctors who wouldn’t listen to me about my chronic pain. The months of abscesses and my failed ostomy eventually led to the failure of my abdominal wall. I spent 8 months losing weight to give me a chance at being able to reconstruct my abdominal wall… and only learned today, two days before surgery, that the excess skin removal procedure covered by my insurance may leave me with even more horrific scarring… unless I come up with an additional $6,000 prior to surgery in Wednesday to cover cosmetic work.
This comes following the need to spend $3,000 getting a tooth extracted and having a flipper made because I wound up getting tooth resorption—a condition that needed to be resolved weeks before surgery.
My spouse and I are trying as hard as we can, but we can’t keep up with these medical costs anymore. Our wedding caterer robbed us of our life savings weeks before the hospital stay and we’re still dealing with the debt of paying for our wedding twice. And, while I realize adding on cosmetic contouring to my functional skin removal is not an absolute necessity… I really want the “extreme body horror” era of my life to be over after this next surgery.
So.
Anything helps.
