Support Bee's Fight Against IMHA
Donation protected
My sweet dog, Bee, has been battling Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA) starting 11/8/2024. This condition has caused her red blood cell levels (HCT) to drop dangerously low.
When she was first diagnosed, her HCT was just 9%, and she needed an emergency blood transfusion to raise it to 17%. Sadly, her levels dropped back to 7% last week, requiring another transfusion to bring it up to 14%. Now, her levels are dropping again, and she may need a third blood transfusion soon.
Bee is only 3 years and 8 months old. She is still full of life and has so much more love to give. I believe she can recover with the right care and treatment, but I can’t afford the escalating medical costs.
I’m humbly asking for your support to help Bee get the care she needs. Any amount, no matter how small, will go directly toward her blood transfusions, medications, and follow-up care.
For details of the medical costs: the first blood transfusion, performed at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Oklahoma City, OK, cost $2,572.68. The second blood transfusion, carried out at Neel Veterinary Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK, cost $2,945.45. Bee’s primary veterinarian is Sooner Veterinary Hospital, where we’ve been doing weekly blood work. This includes $45 for a CBC test and $67 for a physical examination each visit.
We have also consulted with an internal medicine specialist, who agreed that Bee’s likely diagnosis is immune-mediated anemia (non-regenerative), though other possibilities such as bone marrow disease, cancer, or myelofibrosis cannot be ruled out. The specialist recommended further diagnostics, including an abdominal ultrasound, chest radiographs, and a bone marrow aspirate. We plan to proceed with the ultrasound today, 12/2, while continuing her current treatment with Mycophenolate and Prednisone.
In addition, Bee has been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease and is now on medication, specifically Clopidogrel, to manage the condition.
Thank you for being a part of Bee’s fight. Your kindness and generosity mean everything to us.
