Meet BeeGee, our sweet ~5-year-old pittie mix my husband Will and I adopted in 2024. She has brought so much joy to our little family and is very loved by us and her big sister Leia. Recently, we learned a mass growing on her right hind leg is likely cancerous, and the best option is to amputate the leg. Here is her story.

On November 9, 2025, we noticed a lump on her right hind leg. We took her to VEG ER in Franklin, TN, as she was not putting weight on that leg. At that time, we were hopeful it might be something minor. Since then, we have been on an exhausting and emotional journey, going through multiple veterinary visits, diagnostics, and different treatment plans and medications in an effort to uncover the true cause.

Early suspicions included a soft tissue injury, spider bite, or vasculitis. We worked closely with our regular veterinarian, trying conservative treatments and ruling out possibilities one by one, always hoping for good news.

On January 6, our vet attempted a more invasive procedure. Lidocaine was applied, and the mass was opened to search for a possible foreign body. None was found. The area was flushed, cleaned, and a pressure bandage was applied. Unfortunately, within 24 hours, the mass would not stop bleeding. At that point, we were urgently referred to BluePearl ER and Specialty.

After evaluation by a surgical specialist, the bleeding raised serious concern for cancer. Due to the nature of the mass and the uncontrolled bleeding, the recommended course of action is amputation, which will be performed on Monday, January 12, followed by sending the tissue to pathology to determine the exact type of cancer and next steps.

This decision has been devastating, but it is also the best chance to stop her pain, prevent further complications, and potentially save her life. Dogs are incredibly resilient, and we know she can adapt and thrive on three legs, but inevitably, the financial strain on top of it all has been tough to navigate, and we may still have a long road ahead.

The estimated cost for the surgery and pathology is $5,519-$6,122, not including the significant expenses we’ve already incurred throughout this process.

We are asking for help so we can give her the care she desperately needs and the chance to continue living the happy life she deserves. Any donation, share, or kind word means more than we can express. Thank you for reading thus far and for supporting our girl during the hardest chapter of her story. ❤️
