Support Bee and Serana: Disabled Queer Couple in Need
Donation protected
Thank you for visiting our fundraiser! My name is Bee and my partner is Serana. We live together as a queer couple in America with our cat Chu Chu. Both of us are disabled and in need of help with our monthly finances. With no support system in place and unstable income, our survival depends on good people in the community like you to donate to us. Please consider giving some money and sharing our fundraiser so we have a means to get by - every $1 counts.
For more background, both of us are estranged from our families for our safety. We grew up in red states and fled to a blue state a year after we met in 2023. This was because of the increasing hostility and dangerous environments we've encountered as a disabled queer couple during politically tumultuous times in our country. We have tried living as independently as we can for as long as possible which includes spending very frugally to conserve our savings.
Unfortunately, both of us are chronically ill and can't work.
Serana is especially vulnerable because they need incredibly expensive lifesaving medications for their serious and complicated conditions such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia. Currently their medications are covered under government programs but with the threat of medicaid being cut we are looking at an uncertain future.
As for me, I was able bodied when we met but became disabled with fibromyalgia after we moved 2 years ago. We help each other keep afloat but are at our limits taking care of just the basics - cooking, cleaning, and hygiene.
After a couple years of receiving benefits that don't cover all of our living expenses, our savings are dwindling and there is nothing else we can do but turn to requesting mutual aid. If we don't receive what we need soon, it is likely we will become homeless.
We wouldn't survive homelessness as we need to be protected from sunlight and refrigerate our medications. It would be a catastrophic but very real scenario we are both dreading. Without a social safety net we are in major need. I ask for your help before it's too late... I love my partner and the life we share, it would be devastating to lose more than we already have.
If you're curious how we would be spending these funds here is a breakdown of last month's expenses:
- Rent -$1,217.49
- Electricity -$40.07
- Internet -$70
- Phone bill -$66
- Groceries -$550
- Car insurance & necessities -$1,988.83
Total: $3,932.39
Most of these expenses are recurring and some are covered by benefits like food stamps which is why our goal is less than our total expenses. I promise we only ask what we need to get by. It is a genuine hope of mine to make a stable source of income someday, but right now I have to accept humility and hope for your financial support.
Thank you for helping us, even just reading our story is meaningful. If you don't donate, sharing our fundraiser is the next best thing. If you do send us a donation - I forever appreciate it.
