My name is Heather Sanders. The purpose of this GoFundMe is to offset and ease the financial burden of Rebecca Bielecki, known to most by her maiden name, Becky Proffitt. With the permission of her family (Sandy, Billy, Mandy, and James), I asked to start this fundraiser to inform friends, family, and everyone of her current condition and to hopefully raise anything to help Becky and her son Billy.
Becky is currently in the hospital and has been on a ventilator and sedated since Thursday, July 17. Becky was admitted to the hospital on Monday, July 14, following a doctor visit to monitor her blood. At that time, Becky was struggling to absorb oxygen due to pulmonary fibrosis. Becky was immediately admitted into the hospital needing oxygen and having high liver enzymes. Tuesday afternoon, she was still struggling to absorb oxygen even at high concentration and high pressure, due to the fibrosis causing fluid in her lungs and hardening of her lungs. The options given to Becky at that time were to continue oxygen and keep hoping for a change or be sedated and go on a ventilator to try to get some relief or change in her condition. Wednesday afternoon, Becky was told that there were no more medicines or treatments that could help her. To quote the doctor, "Your lungs are shot, a lung transplant is the only thing that could save you, but you do not qualify." To hear those words at 47 years old is unimaginable. After a lot of questions and tears, Becky made the choice to go on a ventilator in the hopes a lung culture and time for her body to rest would bring a new outcome. Becky was told 10-14 days is the timeline for a ventilator. We are all steadily hoping for that miracle to come.
Becky's health issues started years ago with Lipedema, making it difficult for her to work. Becky then began experiencing extreme exhaustion, shortness of breath, and mobility issues leading to something more serious. After a long testing and experimental process, Becky was diagnosed a year ago with Short Telomeres Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects the liver, heart, lungs, and blood production. For Becky, that means at times needing weekly blood transfusions, multiple trips to Cleveland Clinic, spinal taps, motorized scooters, and oxygen tanks.
With the inability to work and the many denials for disability, it has been financially difficult for Becky and her 26-year-old son, Billy. Becky and Billy live together in Swanton, Ohio, truly taking care of each other. With Becky's physical limitations, Billy helps with cooking, lifting her scooter, and things that are within his capabilities. Billy's diagnosis of Asperger syndrome, autism, and ADD has been a lifelong struggle for him. Billy does his best to maintain a job at Schutz Container of Perrysburg and help Becky however he is able. Billy does not drive, and maintaining a house and being responsible for bills is not possible. Becky's mother, Sandy Waddell (Stevenson-Proffitt), has recently come to stay with them but has heart problems and health conditions as well. With Becky unable to work, Sandy on a fixed income, and Billy needing daily transportation for work, they have been struggling. As we all know, groceries, gas, car maintenance, bills, and taxes never stop. Then with the addition of health issues and the added expenses involved with traveling for treatment, the cost of life just gets higher and higher.
Anyone that knows Becky will tell you she is funny, a good friend, and a hard worker. Becky hustled for every penny she had to take care of herself and Billy. Now with the difficult and uncertain times ahead, I'm hoping any donations collected will help ease the stress, allow her family to spend time with her, and hopefully be able to help her recover and come home and not worry about food or electricity.
PLANS FOR ALL DONATIONS
The outcome that we are all hoping and praying for is that these funds will go to help Becky with anything she may need and anything that would help accommodate her coming home.
The dreaded outcome would be if Becky were to lose her battle, then any donations would be used to cover her funeral costs and any remaining used to help Billy.
Asking for help is never easy and something Becky would never do. But at this time, she needs it. She needs your thoughts, she needs your prayers, she needs your positivity and hopefulness!
