Those that know Becca, know she’s the life of the party and is always on the go. Whether it be with friends or family, enjoying one of her many hobbies, working, or focusing on finishing school. She just graduated from Surgical Tech school and was offered a job at Mease Countryside Hospital that she had to decline. Becca is not one to sit on the sidelines and let life pass her by.
On August 27, 2024, that all changed. Becca went to Morton Plant Hospital ER because the headaches that were plaguing her for months were becoming intolerable. They found her hemoglobin dropped below normal, and it was recommended she be seen by a specialist. After multiple blood transfusions and tests, the oncologist diagnosed her with high risk AML-FLT3, Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a rare and aggressive form of Leukemia. She was admitted to Moffitt Cancer Center where she stayed for six weeks undergoing induction chemotherapy.
Since being released from Moffitt inpatient care, Becca has had doctor appointments three to five days a week and three separate rounds of chemotherapy as an outpatient, bone marrow biopsies, and many scans to make sure her heart and organs are functioning properly. She has relied on family to bring her to and from these many doctor appointments.
She has been on strict restrictions, which has made the process even more exhausting and draining. Becca hasn’t been able to enjoy most of her hobbies, see her friends, and on many occasions, eat food prepared outside of the house.
She has not worked since her diagnosis and it will be several months, or possibly years, until she can work again.
The only cure for this form of Leukemia is a bone marrow transplant.
On January 26, 2025 Becca will admitted into Moffitt, again, to start the process of her bone marrow transplant.
Once released from inpatient care, she is required to live within 20 minutes of Moffitt for a set period of time, under 24/7 care of her caregiver. Becca is required to pay for lodging out of pocket, on top of her own home expenses she is paying each month.
We are not usually ones to ask for help financially but our wish is for Becca to focus on her recovery, without financial stress. Any help offered during Rebecca’s recovery will be a burden lifted and appreciated beyond measure. If you cannot afford financial assistance, please keep Rebecca in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.
