No mother is ever prepared for the phone call that changes everything.

Recently, Becca received that call.

Her 17-year-old son was shot and suffered devastating injuries. He is currently hospitalized, and their family is now facing the possibility that he may be paralyzed.

In a matter of moments, life as they knew it changed.

If you know Becca, you know the kind of person she is. She is kind, hardworking, fiercely devoted to the people and animals she loves, and the type of person who has spent much of her life taking care of others.

But more than anything, Becca is a mom.

A single mom who now finds herself sitting beside her child in a hospital, facing questions no parent should ever have to answer and an uncertain road neither of them could have imagined.

There is so much they still don’t know.

What they do know is that the road ahead may be long. There will be time away from work, everyday bills that don’t stop simply because life has, transportation and medical-related expenses, rehabilitation and therapy, and potentially significant changes needed to help her son adjust to life after leaving the hospital.

Those are things Becca will eventually have to navigate.

But right now, she deserves the ability to simply be his mom.

To sit beside him.

To hold his hand when he’s scared.

To advocate for him when he needs a voice.

To encourage him through the hardest days.

To celebrate every victory, no matter how small.

And to remind her 17-year-old boy that whatever comes next, he will not face it alone.

We are creating this fundraiser to help give Becca that time.

Donations will help replace lost income while she is unable to work, keep their household running, help with transportation and medical-related expenses, and support the rehabilitation, care, equipment or accessibility needs that may come as they learn more about his recovery.

Anyone who knows Becca knows how deeply she loves. She is an avid animal lover, a loyal friend, a familiar face to many after years behind the bar and helping her massage clients. She is someone who has built a community of people who care about her.

Now that community has an opportunity to surround her.

We cannot undo what happened.

We cannot tell Becca what the next few months will look like.

But we can make sure that while she is fighting alongside her son, she doesn’t also have to carry the entire financial weight of this alone.
