On September 18, our lives changed when my mom suffered a traumatic accident that left her with only her left thumb and a small portion of her palm. She is currently in the hospital and doctors are monitoring her closely for infection and hoping they won’t have to amputate her entire hand. We're still unsure how much longer she'll be in the hospital. Her recovery will be long, and the surgeon said it may take up to two years before she is able to use a prosthetic.
My mom is the hardest-working person I know. About 10 years ago, she started her own small business making Colombian Arepas. She put all her time and energy into building something with her own two hands. She has worked alone to provide for herself and her family. The only family she has in the U.S. is me (her daughter) and my brother, and we are doing everything we can to support her during this difficult time.
Since her injuries are severe, she is unable to continue working for a while. Me and my brother are doing everything we can with the help of friends and family to make sure she has everything she needs and covering expenses while she recovers.
We are asking for support to help cover:
-Emergency and ongoing hospital bills
-Surgeries, scans, and rehabilitation care
-A future prosthetic
-Living expenses while she is unable to work
-Accessibility modifications she may need
Any donation will make a huge difference in helping my mom heal and adjust to this huge change in her life. We appreciate all the support and continue to ask for prayers during this difficult time.
My mom is the strongest person I know, and I have no doubt that she'll get through this. Thank you for all the messages, thoughts, prayers, donations, etc.
Thank you,
Michelle Medina
