Alyssa and Steven adopted Beans (and sissy Butters) 1/15/25. Shortly after bringing them home Beans exhibited symptoms of what they thought was a common case of kennel cough. What should have been an easy treatment turned into multiple vet visits. He was put on different antibiotics and steroids, but his condition never fully improved. Over the past few days his condition has worsened to the point of losing his appetite completely, losing his energy, and not going to the bathroom. Finally he was correctly diagnosed and unfortunately he is suffering from FIP (feline infectious peritonitis) which is a fatal, immune-mediated disease in cats caused by certain strains of feline coronavirus (FCoV). Although some vets see this disease as a death sentence, there is a plethora of research and support online proving otherwise. Thousands of pet parents have found success with curing this disease using GS-441524 injections. Because these injections are not FDA approved yet, sourcing them is very costly. He’s currently being hospitalized at the emergency vet for the next 2-4 days (possibly longer) in hopes that being administered IV fluids and a feeding tube can make his little body strong enough for these injections to save his life. Beans is truly the sweetest, smallest boy you’ll ever meet. He deserves a chance to reach his full potential and wrestle with his sister for many more years to come. Euthanasia is not an option in anyone’s mind right now (although sadly a VERY common practice with this diagnosis), and Alyssa and Steven are doing absolutely everything possible to get this little boy healthy again. With the cost of the medication, multiple vet visits since being adopted, and overnight hospital stays stacking up we want to help alleviate some of the stress off of Alyssa and Steven who truly love this little boy more than anything in world.
