Since I was little, I had always wanted to take dance classes, but we could never afford it. In 7th grade, my friend asked me to join this thing called colorguard. I had heard of it before, and while it’s not exactly like dancing at a studio, it was close enough. From the day of my very first practice I fell in love with this sport. It became my safe space and something I could go to when I was feeling overwhelmed. I did colorguard all throughout middle and high school. When I was a junior, unfortunately my winter season was cut short due to COVID and I did not really get a senior year. There were independent groups I could have joined after graduating high school, but I also wanted to go to college. Doing both was not an option for me, so when I decided to go to college, I thought that was the end of performing for me. However, I recently had the amazing opportunity to audition for an independent team and get another season to perform and compete. This winterguard season, I will be performing with Cascadia Winterguard. This is something I never thought I would get to pursue.
