Hello, my name is Shakema Harrison. I’m a first-generation American and a social worker based in New York City. Although I was raised in the United States, my roots run deep in Jamaica. I have witnessed firsthand the challenges my family faced there and understand the hardships many in my community continue to endure. These experiences inspire my commitment to giving back.
I am raising funds to support Baxter’s Mountain Primary School, a small rural public school in St. Mary, Jamaica, serving 64 students. Many of these children face economic barriers that limit access to even the most basic school supplies. This fundraiser will help prepare students for the August 2026 school year by providing essentials like notebooks, pencils, folders, book bags, snacks, and other everyday learning materials resources that make a big difference in a child’s ability to learn and thrive.
I will personally purchase the supplies and deliver them to the school in Jamaica, ensuring your contributions go directly to supporting the students.
The school’s principal, Ms. Sherene Harris, has been a pillar of support for her students, guiding them through education and community outreach. Having met her and the students, I can say it is truly inspiring to see children with so little show up each day with resilience, hope, and bright smiles.
Any remaining funds will go directly to the school to help with construction and repairs following the damage caused by Category Five Hurricane Melissa in 2025.
As a social worker, I deeply believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for change. Every donation, no matter the size, helps remove barriers, restore opportunity, and support a brighter future for these children.
Thank you for standing with me and the students of Baxter’s Mountain Primary School. ❤️
