Hey folks!

First off, thank you so much for taking the time to check out this fundraiser. My name is Vick and I live in Chicago with my wife and three cats, Bashir, Garak, and Kira. My 5 year old cat, Bashir, has been exhbiting chronic asthma symptoms for a while. Like many cat owners I assumed it was just hairballs but then after some research learned he was showing symptoms of asthma. It only recently raised a flag because I noticed he has been seeming a bit more tired than usual and unfortunately only recently realized his breathing is a bit shallow.

I do not have the funds to get him checked out and get him treatment for this and would love and be incredibly grateful for anyone's support in getting him thru this process as quickly as possible. Bashir is a brave little prince who loves to play with his little sister Kira, and give Garak (I call him his boyfriend as they are an unrelated bonded pair) lots of cuddles and grief when playing (Garak is a bit of a grump). He is a very vocal orange boy who loves to call us from across the house as he walks back and forth. I want him to be able to get back to his playful self without worrying about his breathing!

I have contacted a local animal hospital who has quoted me

These are only the first steps. Depending on what the vet says after that, I will probably need to raise more funds for further blood work, potential testing for any worms, and funds for his treatment. I will add those fees as they come up since I still need to take those first steps.

*I am waiting for a call back from the VCA to see if there will be a fee to transfer the cats out of that clinic as well. If there is a fee, it will be added to the goal.

Bashir loves to lay on my chest in the mornings to remind me it's breakfast time. Why do I even set an alarm, when I have his beautiful voice meowing the song of his people?

Update #1 Great start! (08/26/2025)

When he isn't marching around the house singing (he gets it from watching me), he loves to have some snooze time.

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped so far! We're getting pretty close to the $600 goal! I decided to open a Care Credit account so I can get him in to be seen as soon as possible, and the funds raised here will be used to pay off the card.

I've also got the ball rolling for Bashir's intake appointment. Fortunately the VCA does not charge a fee for retrieving/transferring pet medical records, which is great to know. Bashir's appointment will be tomorrow afternoon and I'm excited to get him in.

As more developments come in, I will share them here, and raise my goal as needed to pay the following fees for treament and management.
