Barry has spent the last several years courageously battling multiple forms of cancer. Through strength, faith, and determination, he has overcome some of these battles. Most recently, however, he developed a growth on his esophagus that has made it very difficult for him to eat, requiring the placement of a feeding tube during a prolonged hospital stay. Over time, the effects of chemotherapy have also taken a toll on his body—particularly impacting his blood pressure and mobility. Because of this, simple activities like standing or walking have become difficult and unsafe. After much thought, prayer, and discussion, Barry has made the personal decision to discontinue chemotherapy and begin comfort care. He is now transitioning into hospice and a long-term care facility where the focus will be on comfort, dignity, peace, and quality of life as his body naturally does what it is going to do.

This transition into long-term healthcare and hospice comes with additional expenses, including care support, facility costs, and related medical and living needs. Funds raised will help with medical costs, transitioning Barry to a long-term healthcare facility, and covering debts already incurred, such as credit card bills for previous expenditures. This GoFundMe has been created to help ease the financial burden on Barry and his family as they enter this new chapter. Barry remains very alert, deeply at peace with his decision, and grounded in his faith—trusting fully in God’s timing. He continues to welcome prayers for healing, comfort, and peace. Some individuals entering hospice do improve and even graduate out, and we remain hopeful while prioritizing his comfort and well-being.
