My name is Barb Almich, I am now 72 years old.I grew up on a farm in south central Minnesota, with all the benefits a farm
has to offer a child; Making forts in the haybarn and discovering kittens that has been discreetly hidden by their mother in the hayloft. The smells were just as memorable, fresh cut alfalfa
and fresh cut alfalfa and the smell of the earth after an afternoon shower,
and the smell of late summer corn as I would ride my bike down the road, flanked by rows of corn.
In 2005 my dream of living in the Black Hills became a reality, working at the Wild Horse Sanctuary, hiking
the Hills, and immersing myself in Native American history and culture. Every old logging road contained a story.
But now it's time to go home. My health has been failing. I'm battling arthritis, 2 back surgeries and now I'm facing bilateral knee surgery in the very near future. I miss my family and friends and I'm looking forward to spending time with
my grandchildren like crazy! I've already missed so many special events and signifigant moments in their lives, living 500
miles away.I fear yet another another winter of feeling lonely and isolated.
But..relocating is expensive and way beyond my very limited SS income. A medium U-Haul tentatively would cost $826.00 plus gas at 7-10mpg.
Also needed are the deposits for rent, damages, and utilities requiring deposits
I do not want to die alone, 500 miles away from family and close friends. I love the friends I've made here, but I want to smell the fresh cut alfalfa again, play cards with friends on Saturday nights while i'm still able
Le Sueur MN is where I was born and belong now.
I'm so grateful to anyone who cares to donate.Old age does funny things to people, one of which is the wisdom to understand what your heart needs and to be grateful for the things that fill it.
